Week #24: Creative Writing Challenge – Last Day
Today is the last day of the planet because a meteor is going to wipe us out at midnight. Describe what the day would be like.
All of the studies on happiness have one result in common; that connections with other people have the most impact on happiness. I hope that humanity, when faced with its destruction, would turn to their connections with others in the final hours. I hope that those connections would provide people with some kind of peace, some kind of satisfaction that the existence of humanity was not in vain. I hope that people realize their lives, their very being, had enhanced the lives of others.
So here’s my answer to what I would do on the last day of humanity (in no particular order):
- I would call all the people I loved and tell them how much I appreciated them and that I loved them.
- I would head out to my favorite trail with my husband and dog and run until we couldn’t run any more.
- I would play with my dog and snuggle her.
- I would read the best parts of my favorite books – yes, only the best parts.
- I would make and consume my favorite meal, drink my favorite wine, and make love to my husband.
- I would listen to my favorite music.
- I would gaze at the art on my walls that I’ve collected over the years, each piece holds a different part of me, a different memory.
- I would watch that damn meteor as it came hurtling towards us, and I hope it would be the most awesome thing I’ve ever seen.
What would you do on the last day of humanity?
❤ No meteor coming, but I will still say that I love you, and appreciate you!
