Week #37: Creative Writing Challenge – Warning: Sun Begins to Die
October 11, 2021
What if the sun began to die?
Warning: Sun begins to die. Be aware of the following impacts and plan accordingly:
- Reduced incidence of skin cancer, followed by increased risk of skin cancer as people rush to tanning booths around the world.
- Mass starvation – yes plants need sun – yes animals eat plants – yes we eat both plants and animals.
- Increased investment in lighting for greenhouses.
- Crash of the solar energy market, giving way to increased wind power and depletion of our fossil fuels – the resulting continued global warming would keep the planet warm for a few years and then…
- I hope you like the cold!
- Complete collapse of the parasol industry (hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen to follow).
- A re-write of Peter Pan will appear on the market – Just imagine how different the story is if Peter never has a shadow.
- Children will not grow up to fear the darkness – that’s just a constant state. So maybe fear is also a constant state?
- Great statues of sunglasses are erected in remembrance of the sunlight.
- SAD (seasonal affective disorder) is now a year-round issue and sales of Vitamin D increase 1000-fold.
