E.M.’s Sunday Ramble Prompt 1/23/22
January 25, 2022
Here are the questions:
- You’ve been given an oversized elephant that is blind. You cannot get rid of it. What would you do with it? A real elephant? I’d build it a playground. Elephants are wonderfully smart and need lots of stimulating activities to keep them occupied. I would probably try to rescue some friends so it wouldn’t be lonely. I would take care of it and scratch behind it’s ears if it let me.
- If you had the world’s attention for 30 seconds, what would you say? The brash version of myself would probably say something like, “Get your heads out of your asses. Stop ruining the planet with your greed. Stop fighting with each other just because other people believe or represent something you don’t know anything about or don’t understand. Be nice to people, just because they don’t have as much as you doesn’t mean that they are worth less.” Although maybe I would just show pictures of fuzzy, cute animals and wondrous natural places with a link to donate money to some of the best environmental groups, legal organizations, and clean technology companies.
- What would you want to be famous for in the history books for your country? I wish that I (or really anyone else) could become famous for being a teacher. Our country doesn’t value educators as much as I believe it should. Educators spend ornate amounts of time caring about children and thinking about how to expose them to the rest of the world, how to think critically and logically and fantastically. Most everyone that you ask has a favorite teacher because that teacher provided something to “young” them that was revolutionary. I believe we need to acknowledge and celebrate that role in society more.
- Imagine you could only speak gibberish to everyone you encountered for an entire day. What would your gibberish sound like? I think it would depend on why I could only speak gibberish. For instance, if I had my wisdom teeth out and was hopped up on pain killers, I imagine my gibberish would have lots of groans and throaty sounds topped off with flailing arms to try and get my point across.
- If you lived in a virtual reality world of your own creation, what would it look like? A tropical rainforest at the edge of a blue lagoon. There wouldn’t be any bugs or insects to sting me or give me any tropical diseases, but I would get the sights and sounds of the jungle animals and waves on the beach. I think I would want the next generation VR that comes with touch though. It would be really cool to feel the sand or the surface of the leaves or the breeze through my hair or raindrops on my face. Someone let me know when that version of VR comes out commercially.
