2023 Creative Writing Goals/Projects
I have several things that I’d like to do in 2023 with my writing, but I want the freedom for them to be accomplished in a lot of different ways. So I have a few less specific goals for 2023. In fact, let’s just call them “desires” instead of goals.
- Expand my knowledge about the process of writing. I’d like to get caught up with George Saunders’ Story Club. I’d like to finish his book “A Swim in a Pond in the Rain”. I’d like to read more about the process of writing that other writers go through. Maybe I’ll find a good podcast to list to about writing!
- Explore the world of online publishing a bit more (in the short story/poetry realm). I’d like to find places to submit work to. I’d like to amass some rejections and maybe celebrate some acceptances. I’d like to learn more about the various places that accept publications. This may or may not happen, but it sounds like something fun to explore!
- Continue reading as much as I can and want.
- I still want to do NaNoWriMo, but maybe a better “desire” would be just to continue to work on my novel(s) and make progress on them.
Back in 2021 I found immense joy in my weekly Creative Writing Challenge, so I’ve decided to run it back for 2023. The challenge will be set up the same way – a randomly drawn prompt each week with no limits on style, word count, or topic. The challenge was difficult, but it brought me great joy and a real sense of accomplishment. So while I may not push myself too far on the “desires” I listed above, I’m excited to push myself again through a weekly creative writing challenge because I know the rewards will be worthwhile.
Wish me luck!
Those sound like great directions to head in … good luck! ^_^
